Diarra Smith

Head of Portfolio & Brand

I grew up in Bermuda, a mid-Atlantic archipelago of around 60,000 people, where my first lesson in systems change came early. I attended The Berkeley Institute, founded in 1897 as the island's first racially integrated place of learning, an institution whose founding fathers spent nearly two decades fighting the legacy of colonialism and racial segregation to build something that would outlast them.

Nearly half of Bermuda's Premiers have walked its halls. That experience shaped my core conviction: transformative change is long-term work, and no victory is too small. After studying philosophy and working briefly in Bermudian politics, I moved to the UK in 2008 and spent over a decade supporting startups across funding, operations, and venture building.

I joined Ada in 2021 because it was the only fund I'd found that had something real to say: that talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not, and increasing the aperture of who gets a shot at building the next category defining business is both the right thing to do and one of the greatest untapped opportunities. That strategy is what we call Inclusive Alpha®, and it runs through everything we do, from how we source and select founders to how we support them as they scale.

At Ada, I manage our portfolio function, focusing on fundraising, M&A and enterprise business development alongside brand, marketing, PR and comms. I co-lead our scout and emerging fund manager programmes.

I believe kindness and winning can coexisit, I have strong opinions about the UK's club and dance culture, and I care a lot about how people find more joy and vibrancy in their life and work.
